My Experiences Doing Gymnastics in 14 Places Around the World

Published: November 12, 2025

I am a competitive gymnast, and this blog is about the various gym clubs I’ve trained at around the world (well, all the ones I can remember!) My current favourites are Gymfinity in Bundaberg, Gympie Gymnastics Club, and YMCA Victoria Point (Brisbane/Redlands). Read on to learn about all the ones I’ve been to.

Gympie Gymnastics Club, Gympie, QLD, Australia (2025)

Gympie Gymnastics Club is an excellent gym with a great team of coaches and gymnasts. They do lots of strength in my class, which is great! They have many high-level gymnasts going all the way up to level 8 or 9, both boys and girls. I participated in an in-house Halloween competition with them and went to their Halloween disco. I really enjoyed my time here.

Gymfinity, Bundaberg, QLD, Australia (2025)

Gymfinity is one of my number one favourite gymnasiums! I loved it. They have lots of high-level gymnasts and are extremely polished. I went to four competitions in Level 3 ALP with them, which was great. In the competitions, Gymfinity would always win lots of medals, ribbons, and trophies.

YMCA Victoria Point, QLD, Australia (2025)

YMCA Victoria Point is an amazing gym, with incredible coaches and gymnasts. They have some pretty high-level gymnasts there, which is great. I loved my time there. It’s definitely another one of my favourites. Another thing I should mention is that I trained there for 5 or 6 weeks, then went to Childers, and then came back and trained for another 4 weeks.

Invert Sports Centre, Goulburn, NSW, Australia (2025)

Invert Sports Centre in Goulburn is definitely one of my favourites. It’s a very small gym, with excellent coaches. Unfortunately, you cannot watch the classes. I made friends with nearly everyone in my class, and learnt all of their names. Everyone is super friendly, and they have a little cafe where you can get baked goods, coffees, hot chocolates, puppachinos, and slushies. I did an in-house competition with them and went to their pyjama disco, which was loads of fun.

Barron Valley Gymnastics, Cairns, QLD, Australia (2025)

Barron Valley Gymnastics in Cairns is a large gym offering classes for every level. I was in COMP 2, and Romy also did classes there. In my class, we had core values, including teamwork and other qualities, and they gave out cards whenever someone demonstrated a core value. I have one of them. Another thing is that it was lower-level skills than I’m used to, but that’s because they focus on refining their gymnasts’ skills so that they are polished and competition-ready.

Swaga Gym, Singapore (2024)

SWAGA GYM in Singapore is a big gym with excellent coaches. I improved my skills a lot there, and really enjoyed it. One highlight for my mum was the good seating area they had for adults. It’s big with lots of tables and chairs, Lego, and a great view of the gym. There’s also a trampoline park right next door, which we went to once. SWAGA GYM also has an excellent shop with lots of very pretty and high-quality leotards, scrunchies, bags, pencil cases, books, and all sorts of things.

Flykidz Gymnastics, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2024)

Flykidz in Kuala Lumpur is my number one favourite gymnastics club in all of Asia! It’s a small gym, but the coaches are excellent and very friendly. Until then, it had been my dream to compete in a gymnastics competition, so I did my very first competition with them, which is one of the reasons I love them so much!

I was so nervous at the start that I actually cried after my floor routine (my first routine!), because I had forgotten to present at the end! I trained with Flykidz for a few months, went to Singapore, came back, and trained for another month.

MIGS-Mid Island Gym Sports, Rotorua, New Zealand (2024)

MIGS is a big gym for classes for all ages and levels. We were staying in a rural area called Galatea at the time, which is near Rotorua, Whakatane, and Taupo. We tried a gym in Whakatane for a holiday program, and we also tried this one. I liked them both, but we decided on this one because Romy and I could both do classes here. I will probably return here to train competitively over the summer holidays in 2025/2026.

Gisborne Gymnastics Club, Gisborne, New Zealand (2019/2023)

When I was five, I participated in the free play at Gisborne Gymnastics Club, which is only for children aged five and under, I think. Then, when we went back, I did the homeschooling programs and a couple of holiday programs when I was nine and ten. I really like Gisborne Gymnastics Club and will hopefully return there to train competitively next year.

Reach Gymnastics, Emerald, Dandenong Ranges, VIC, Australia (2023)

Reach Gymnastics in the Dandenong Ranges is also part of a sports complex. One reason I quite liked Reach is that they gave out Gymnast Of The Day certificates each day to the person who performed the best in training that day. In my class, we played a few games, but I don’t usually do that anymore. Inside the gym, there was also an indoor basketball court, and outside was an outdoor exercise area.

Artemis Gymnastics, Johor Bahru, Malaysia (2023)

Artemis Gymnastics is in a sports complex in Johor Bahru. It is a small gym, but with excellent coaches. When you are part of the club, they give you a T-shirt and a bag, and ring a bell, and the whole gym claps. I really liked how they have a trampoline out front, which is for any kids, even if they aren’t in a class. They also have nice leotards on sale there.

Omaggio, Goa, India (2023)

Omaggio is a performing arts center in Goa, India. While we were there, I did gymnastics and aerial classes, and Romy did gymnastics and ballet. I had never taken aerial classes before, so it was really fun to try something new. I would definitely like to do more aerial classes in the future.

Sports Centre Tbilisi, Tbilisi, Georgia (2022)

The Sports Centre Tbilisi offers classes taught in Russian by Russian coaches with Russian gymnasts. Here, I tried rhythmic gymnastics for a change. I usually do artistic gymnastics (artistic apparatus includes floor, beam, vault, and bars, whereas rhythmic gymnastics features ball, baton, hoop, and ribbon). We even got to watch a rhythmic gymnastics competition for free!

Likya Spor Kulubu, Fethiye, Turkiye (2021-2022)

Likya Spor Kulubu is a sports club in Fethiye. While we were in Türkiye (which was about a year), I took swimming, gymnastics, and Zumba classes, which were great. I had never done Zumba before, but I loved it. One highlight was that the classes were in Turkish! That’s how I learned to speak some Turkish, especially counting from 1-10.

My experiences doing gymnastics in 14 places around the world | In conclusion

So that was all the gym clubs I’ve trained at over about 4 years. I have noticed that some of the coaches in Malaysia were a lot more jokey than some of the ones in Australia. Some in Australia are more firm in a good way (there are some exceptions, of course). I plan to compete at level 4 in Australia next year, so I will update this blog again soon!
