K’gari Day Trips
Although we didn’t get to visit K’gari this time, it’s top of the list for many travelers to the area. K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) boasts crystal clear waters perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. It’s just a 45-minute boat ride away, and there are several family-friendly tour options for a half or full-day trip.
This full-day family-friendly boat cruise includes water sports, tube rides, snorkel equipment, kayaks, and guaranteed humpback whale sightings during whale-watching season. Or, opt for a 5-hour family-friendly tour with morning tea, lunch, and all water activity equipment.
Alternatively, this 4-hour eco sailing adventure is ideal for those who prefer a small group and want to focus on discovering the region’s abundant marine life.
Take a sunset stroll along the beach
If you visit Hervey Bay, a sunset beach stroll is a must! We were certainly impressed.
We headed down to Torquay Beach just after sunset to enjoy the magnificent changing colours in the sky reflected in the calm waters. Just gorgeous!

Enjoy the 16km path on the esplanade
The Hervey Bay Esplanade has an amazing 16km paved walkway, perfect for walking and riding. It stretches from Point Vernon to the Urangan Pier.
Our girls loved riding their blades and scooters along the path and stopping to enjoy the beach views and other points of interest along the way. Check it out if you’re looking for things to do in Hervey Bay with kids!

Play at the Water education park
Wow! We loved the Water Education Park on the Esplanade in Hervey Bay. It’s a must-visit if you’re looking for things to do with the kids.
This park has huge climbing nets and slides and plenty of other play equipment. The skate park and parkour section will also keep them happy!
It reminded our girls a bit of Fethi Bey Parki… one of their favorite parks ever, in Fethiye, Turkiye.

Stroll along the Urangan Pier and check out the markets
If you’re looking for things to do in Hervey Bay with kids, take them for a stroll along the Urangan Pier. It used to be an important port for exports like sugar and coal. Now, the 880 metre pier is perfect for enjoying the fresh air and gorgeous surroundings.
If you visit on a Wednesday or Saturday, check out the markets at the pier. It’s the place to go for local handicrafts and food stalls.

Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens
The Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens is an excellent spot to take the kids for time in nature. Enjoy a stroll, have a picnic on the grass, and spend time watching the many turtles cruise around the lagoon.

Wetside Water Park
The Wetside Water Park is a free water park on Hervey Bay’s coast, just a short walk away from the All Abilities Playground. Unfortunately, it was closed for winter when we were in the area, but I still wanted to mention it here because it looks so fun!
It’s the sort of place my kids would spend several hours, and the perfect location to cool off on hot days. I noticed the facility also has some waterslides that you pay a small fee for, making the splash park an ideal morning or afternoon out for all ages.
Things to do in Hervey Bay with Kids | In Conclusion
Whether you’re planning an island adventure, enjoying the beaches, or exploring the many parks and playgrounds, Hervey Bay has plenty to keep the whole family entertained. With several fun, free, and family-friendly options, it’s the perfect spot to relax and make memories with your kids.
