Top Suggestions for things to do in Petrovac (Montenegro) and nearby

By Elly McGuinness

Petrovac Na Moru is a lovely little town on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro. Nestled in between Budva and Bar it becomes a busy and vibrant place over the summer months. We found the beaches very busy, but I guess that’s pretty typical of coastal areas in Europe during summer. We stayed on top of the hill, just below the main road. We really loved staying up there for the lovely view and little burst of exercise we got at the end of each day when we headed home. Here are a few of our recommendations for things to do in Petrovac.

Explore the pedestrianized boulevard and town beach in Petrovac Na Moru

There is a lovely pedestrianized Boulevard in Petrovac that has plenty of restaurants and gelaterias open during summer. You’ll find a pebble beach right in the town center that’s very busy during summer. Although busy, it’s a very convenient spot to cool off in the refreshing water.

We’d recommend walking along to the end of the boulevard and around Kastio Castle. Here you’ll get a glimpse of history and get to enjoy gorgeous views over the water.

Lazaret Café and pizzeria is close by and we had huge and delicious vegetarian lasagnas there.

If you feel like some extra exploration there are some steps behind Lazaret’s that lead up to the forest and over to the next beach (Perazica Do beach). We didn’t go all the way to the beach but walked up to enjoy the views and shade of the forest.

There are also plenty of options to take boat rides from Petrovac to other nearby beautiful beaches and points of attraction. It’s one of the most popular things to do in Petrovac for holidaymakers in the summertime.

Enjoy the blue waters of Petrovac Beaches

If you want to explore some other beaches near Petrovac try Lučica and Buljarica.

Lučica beach is just 10 minutes walk east from the town center. We still found it quite crowded.

There was an old, (and slightly run-down) playground at the far end of the beach. The girls enjoyed it though. There were trees for Ayla to climb and shade for us to get out of the sun.

At the other end of the beach, there are ledges you can jump off onto the water.

From the playground end of the beach, you can follow a hiking trail through the forest. If you want to you can continue on to Buljarica beach. This beach is a bit longer and there’s a campground nearby. There are a few restaurants and drinks-only bars along the beach.

As is the case at all the beaches, you can sit on your towel on the beach for free (in certain spots), or you can rent a lounger and umbrella.

You can walk to Buljarica beach from Petrovac Town in about 30 minutes, or catch a taxi for around 5 euros. If you’re looking for things to do in Petrovac, check out all the different beaches, and just enjoy chilling, eating, and playing!

If you prefer sandy beaches, try Ada Bojana!

Ada Bojana island is much-loved by the people of Montenegro. Whilst many of the beaches on the Adriatic coast are pebbly, Ada Bojana is known for it’s 3km long sandy beach. Although it’s technically an island, you can reach it by car and it takes about 1 hour 15 minutes from Petrovac.

Visit another nearby town in the Budva Municipality

Take a day trip to another nearby town such as Sveti Stefan, or Budva itself. All the towns are connected by buses, or you can, of course, drive yourself. Our friends stayed in Sveti Stefan for a few weeks and said it was their favorite place in the whole of Montenegro! It only takes about 13 minutes to drive to Sveti Stefan from Petrovac.

Take a day trip to Lake Skadar National Park

Skadar Lake is a gorgeous lake that’s easy to access from Petrovac. The trip between Petrovac and Virpazar on Skadar Lake is only about 30 minutes. From Virpazar, you can take a boat trip to enjoy the best of the natural scenery around the lake.

Check out the Bay of Kotor

Visit the Bay of Kotor and enjoy the stunning landscapes and gorgeous little towns. Your trip from Petrovac could be somewhere between 50 minutes and 1 hour 50 minutes, depending on which part of the bay you visit.

Enjoy the natural beauty of Durmitor National Park

Durmitor National Park is worth more than a day trip from Petrovac! It takes a little over three hours to reach Durmitor National Park from Petrovac, so consider staying a night or two. The Black Lake in Žabljak and the Tara river canyon are “must-see” natural attractions here.
