Laos moves slowly, and that is exactly what makes it work so well for families. The pace in Luang Prabang – the town most families visit – is unhurried in a way that is rare in Southeast Asia. The alms-giving ceremony at dawn is one of those experiences that children can remember for a lifetime. The Kuang Si waterfalls outside town are spectacular and accessible for families with young children. The country as a whole is less infrastructure-heavy than, say, Thailand or Vietnam, which you can read as it’s likely more suitable for families comfortable with a little more uncertainty and looking for a quieter version of Southeast Asia.
